Placement Leader (undergraduate)

Maxine leads the undergraduate school placement modules on the BA Primary Education with QTS and Primary Teaching Studies programmes. She joined Bishop Grosseteste University in 2013 as a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education.  Prior to this Maxine was a successful Primary Headteacher and a Local Leader of Education.  In this role she worked with the Lincolnshire School Improvement Service and the National Collage of Teaching and Learning to support and develop Senior Leaders’ key skills in Leadership and Management. She is Chair of Governors of a Lincolnshire primary academy.

Maxine mainly works on the undergraduate Primary Education with QTS and Primary Teaching Studies programmes. Her main subject teaching interest is history and how this can be brought alive in the primary classroom.  She also teaches aspects of assessment and subject leadership skills.

Maxine’s most recent research focussed on how primary history specialists developed and maintained an interest in the subject and how this knowledge could be used to engage pupils in the subject.  She has also carried out research on the use of video enhanced observation to develop classroom presence in early initial teacher education.  She is currently considering how the use of Co-Chairs of governors can help schools secure future expertise within the governing body.

Consultancy and Projects

Maxine works with a group of headteachers who are developing approaches to assessment without levels.
