Jan Machalski

Academic Staff & Lecturer

School of Social Sciences

Jan Machalski teaches on the Psychology degree. Jan joined the staff of Bishop Grosseteste University in 2005 having held a variety of leadership and senior management roles in both secondary and further education sectors. She has also been involved in several biological psychology research projects. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching

She is the module leader for the first year Biological Psychology module. She also supports first year students with academic writing. Her particular research and teaching interests are in autism and critical psychiatry. She teaches in these areas in the second year of the degree and supports third year dissertations in these subjects.

Jan has been part of the Escalate funded team looking at employer engagement. More recently she explored the role of video conferencing in supporting the early learning of trainee teachers. This was published in Escalate News, funded by a Sharing Ideas grant from Escalate and resulted in a workshop at the TEAN conference at the University of Glasgow. Teaching on a work based degree means that many of her research interests are focussed within this area.
