Dr Andrew Scattergood
Programme Leader - Professional Studies
Dr Andrew Scattergood joined Bishop Grosseteste University in September 2020 as Programme Leader on the Professional Studies course. Prior to arriving at BGU, Andrew held the post of Vice Principal at a large mainstream secondary school where he was responsible for pupil attendance, behaviour, character education and the school rewards systems. He also line managed several departments and taught across a range of subject areas and key stages.
Dr Scattergood began his teaching career as a PE teacher and quickly progressed into the role of Director of PE and School Sport before moving in to higher education in 2008 at the University of Chester. He initially taught across a range of degree programmes at Chester that included Education Studies, Sports Science and Initial Teacher Training, before developing a new degree programme for aspiring PE teachers in 2015. Andrew led this programme through the initial inception and the first several years of delivery before returning back in to the secondary school system. During his time at Chester, Andrew completed his MSc, followed by a PhD that examined the attitudes and experiences of working-class pupils in a large secondary school.
Andrew has experience as an external examiner, has reviewed a range of papers for high profile journals, and continues to research and publish in a range of areas linked to social class and education.
