PGCE and School Direct

PGCE and School Direct applicants must apply via UCAS Teacher Training. The UCAS application fee is £1 for 2019 entry.

GCSEs and Equivalency Requirements

PGCE Primary and Secondary:

  • You must have achieved GCSE Grade C (grade 4 on the new grading system) or above in English Language and Mathematics.
  • You must have also achieved GCSE Grade C (grade 4 on the new grading system) or above in Science, if you wish to train to teach the Primary age range.

It is preferable to have these qualifications before applying, however, consideration will be given to those which are achieved prior to enrolment. It is your responsibility to have these qualifications in place before you can enrol onto the course.

We do consider equivalent qualifications at BGU, and below is a list of the equivalent qualifications that meet the entry requirements for our courses.

GCSE Science Equivalents

If your qualifications are not listed in the above documents, we will consider equivalency tests taken with the following providers:

PGCE

Postgraduate and Professional Graduate Certificates in Education (PGCE) offer an integrated academic and professional preparation for teaching, combining academic study at masters level with recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This is available for early years teaching, general primary teaching and for a range of and secondary subject specialisms.

If you have any further questions please the BGU admissions team at admissions@bishopg.ac.uk.

School Direct

The School Direct Training Programme is school-embedded Initial Teacher Training (ITT) in primary and secondary schools across England. All of BGU’s School Direct places will lead to both a full PGCE award and Qualified Teacher Status.
