Our Collections

Here at BGU, we are dedicated to offering you access to the widest possible range of resources to help you with your studies, your classes, or when you’re out on placement.

Our Collections

Our Library owns or subscribes to a vast number of resources, all carefully chosen to support your studies, and all free to access.  Included are over 140,000 physical resources, as well as hundreds of thousands of online resources such as journal articles, ebooks and other documents, and over 70 databases.

WorldCat is BGU’s library catalogue and allows you to search of all of our physical resources and about half of our databases at the same time.  A-Z Databases lists and links to all our library databases, including those not searched by WorldCat.

Special Collections

The Library has four special collections:

The Teaching Resources Collection (TRC)
A fantastic space designed for trainee teachers, students intending to work (or already working) in educational settings, and students of children’s literature.  The TRC houses around 24,000 resources including reading schemes, resource packs, children’s books, Storysacks®, puppets, DVDs and games.  To promote this collection the library team publish a children’s literature newsletter called Hullabaloo!.

The Lincolnshire Collection
A collection of over 4,000 books on Lincolnshire history, archaeology, flora and fauna, geology, trade and industry, language, heritage and architecture, including a significant number of items donated by the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology.

The Lincoln Mystery Plays Archive, incorporating the Keith Ramsey Collection

Ephemera from performances of the modern Lincoln Mystery Plays (1969 to the present) incorporating photographs, press releases, reviews, correspondence, programmes, scripts, posters and Keith Ramsay’s personal scrapbooks. To find out more about this Archive please click here.

The Hunt Collection
Three separate sets of materials relating to the First and Second World Wars, including an original printed copy of The Honour Roll of the British Civilian War Dead, 1939-45.

Our University Archive

Located within the Library our Archive houses records and documents pertaining to BGU’s long history.  Access to the Archive is by appointment only; please contact our University Archivist Guenever Moyes to arrange a visit.
