Level 5 Business students were invited by Lincolnshire County Council to attend their recent Environment and Economic Scrutiny Committee meeting. These meetings can be attended by the public, but students were able to sit in the chamber to have a front row seat to listen to members and the council’s pressing issues, and the actions they are taking to combat them such as ‘Levelling up’ and Tree Strategy: The Right Tree in the Right Place.

The opportunity provided students to provide an insight into the etiquette and processes that dictate Lincolnshire County Council meetings and the variety of opinions and views expressed in healthy debates.

Rachel Linstead, Business Lecturer, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Lincolnshire County Council for this opportunity for our students to learn more about local government, and to the members present for their welcoming demeanour.

“The role of local government can influence the local and regional business environment, which was clear to our students throughout the meeting, and having an understanding of the issues impacting both the council and the constituents they represent is essential for helping to develop the decisions they make as future leaders.

“The academic team are constantly seeking opportunities within our networks to introduce our students into a variety of situations they may face within their careers alongside traditional classroom learning, so we really appreciate Lincolnshire County Council extending this invitation to our students.”
