Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) is excited to announce that the new PG Cert In General Practice Nursing has won a tender process by Health Education England (East Midlands) to form part of a new national General Practice Nurse Traineeship pilot (GPNT).
The GPNT is a joint initiative by Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Groups working with NHS England, NHS England Midlands & East, Central Midlands and Health Education England to deliver a new model of General Practice Nursing training aimed at keeping General Practice fit for the future.
BGU’s PG Cert In General Practice Nursing is a specialised Programme which will provide Registered Nurses new to General Practice, with a learner-centred and practice-focused programme of study, meeting their personal, professional and practice development needs.
Thanks to the new partnership 10 Health Education funded students will join the course’s first cohort in March.
Nicki Walsh, Senior lecturer (and Programme Lead for Health and Social Care) in the School of Social Science at BGU, described her excitement at what the new partnership could bring to healthcare in Lincolnshire:
“The opportunity for BGU to provide this education locally for Nurses new to general practice opens up a new area of provision not only to BGU but also to support General Practice in Lincolnshire to continue to provide high quality front line services for the people of Lincolnshire.
"By offering the chance for professionals to upskill it promotes retention of current nurses within the county and provides those wishing to enter General Practice with the support they require to do this“
The first cohort of General Practice Nursing students will begin in March and there is still time for you to join them. To find out how, speak to our Enquiries Team.
The new PG Cert In General Practice Nursing joins the developing portfolio within the School of Social Science at BGU which reflects current and future needs of the health and social care sector. Other current courses include Masters in Health & Social Care Leadership, Primary & Community Care and Mental Health, Wellbeing & Resilience.
