Entry Requirements

China

UG

A recognised International Foundation Year from a UK institution or a Chinese institution when following a validated UK syllabus.

OR

Successfully completed first year of a Chinese University degree

OR

2 or 3 year Diploma (Zhuanke or Da Zhuan) with a minimum final grade of 70% or equivalent

PG

Completion of a Bachelor degree from an accredited Chinese university with 75% or higher (GPA 2.9 or above)

If you find that your qualifications do not meet our entry requirements, relevant experience and completion of one of BGU’s online pre-arrival courses can also be taken into account to meet the entry criteria.

Hong Kong

UG

Completion of HKALE – Advanced Level at grades CCC
OR
Completion of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education with individual scores of 3, 3, 4 from core subjects, and a minimum of 3 in one other elective subject.

PG

Completion of a Bachelor degree from an accredited Hong Kong university with at least a 2.2

If you find that your qualifications do not meet our entry requirements, relevant experience and completion of one of BGU’s online pre-arrival courses can also be taken into account to meet the entry criteria.

India

UG

60% average in Standard 12 (from any accredited board)

PG

Bachelor or Arts/Science/Commerce OR a Professional Bachelor degree, with 50% or above, a GPA of 6 or above on a 10 point scale, or a GPA of 4 or above on a 7 point scale

If you find that your qualifications do not meet our entry requirements, relevant experience and completion of one of BGU’s online pre-arrival courses can also be taken into account to meet the entry criteria.

Malaysia

UG

Malaysia Higher School Certificate (STPM) with at least three subjects passed at Grade C or above.

PG

Bachelor degree from an accredited Malaysian university with at least a Class 2 Division ii, or a B

Thailand

UG

Advanced Diploma
OR
Successfully completed first year of a Thai University degree
OR
Diploma or Higher Certificate in Vocational or Technical Education

PG

Completion of a 6 year Bachelor degree from an accredited Thai university with at least a 3 when assessed as a 4 point grading system or a grade of at least a B/Good

USA

UG

High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 plus at least one of the following:

  • SAT post-2016: overall score of 1180 with a minimum of 570 in Maths and 610 in evidence-based reading and writing
  • SAT pre-2016: overall score of 1800 with a minimum of 550 in each element
  • ACT score of 25+
  • At least 2 AP exams

PG

Completion of a Bachelor degree from an accredited institution with a GPA score of at least 2.6

OR

Completion of a First Professional Degree from an accredited institution with a GPA score of at least 2.5

English Language Requirements

Tier 4 students

IELTS requirements
Undergraduate For direct entry, A minimum IELTS Score of level 6 with a minimum of 5.5 across all sections (reading, writing, speaking and listening), or equivalent. Students with an IELTS score of Level 5.5 with a minimum of 5 across all sections, can gain entry to course but will be required to take part in a programme of in-sessional support, which will be subject to a further fee of £500. This will be reviewed on an annual basis for the duration of the programme.
Postgraduate (Taught) A minimum requirement of IELTS level 6.5 with a minimum of 6 in reading and writing and 5.5 in speaking and listening.
Postgraduate (Research) For postgraduate research programmes a requirement of 6.5 with a minimum of 6 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

 

Applicants required to complete a SELT should meet the University’s minimum overall requirements and minimum scores in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Additionally, the test should have been undertaken within two years of the intended start date of the course.

If you have completed an academic qualification equivalent to a UK degree from a majority English-speaking country as defined in Home Office ‘Tier 4 of the Points Based System – Policy Guidance’, you will not be required to complete any additional English proficiency tests. For the purposes of degree equivalence the government considers these countries to be:

Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, USA

Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) qualifications obtained from recognised UK universities within the UK are not acceptable as a SELT. English language conditions can only be waived if you have been awarded a full Masters’ degree from a recognised UK university within the UK.

EU/EEA students

The University can accept some school-based qualifications at specified grades to satisfy the English language entry requirements for undergraduate programmes. For further information regarding which qualifications can be considered, please email the Admissions team on admissions@bishopg.ac.uk.

International students from majority English speaking countries

Nationals of any of the countries below would not be required to undertake a SELT for entry into the University.

Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, USA

If you are not a national of any of the above countries, but you completed all of your secondary education in English in one of the above countries within 2 years of the start date of the course you are applying for, then you will not be required to undertake a SELT.

In some circumstances, we can consider exceptions to the above requirements. If you cannot meet the requirements above, but would like to apply for one of our courses, please contact the Admissions Team at admissions@bishopg.ac.uk.
