Grants

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for a financial grant to help you pay for your time at university

Parents’ Learning Allowance

Full-time Students NON-REPAYABLE
Income-assessed: up to £1,716 in 2019/2020

APPLY FOR YOUR FUNDING NOW AT www.gov.uk/studentfinance

The Parents’ Learning Allowance is to help with course-related costs for students who have dependent children. How much you get depends on your household income (including your husband, wife or partner) – Student Finance England will be able to advise you on how much help you might get. Jobcentre Plus will not count this grant when they work out your benefit entitlement.

Child Tax Credit from HM Revenue and Customs

Students with dependent children are eligible for Child Tax Credit from HM Revenue and Customs. Students receiving the maximum amount of Child Tax Credit are entitled to free school meals for their children. Student funding is disregarded for Child Tax Credit purposes, with the exception of the Adult Dependant’s Grant.

To qualify for Child Tax Credit, you must be aged 16 or over and be responsible for a child under 16 or for someone aged 16 to 19 in relevant (full-time non-advanced) education, or who is registered with the Careers Service or equivalent. You qualify for Child Tax Credit at a higher rate if your child or one of your children is under one year old or is disabled.

The money you get depends on your circumstances. To find out if you are eligible call 0345 300 3900 or visit the HM Revenue and Customs Website. The website allows you to check how much you could get, and to make your claim online immediately.
