About this course
The Senior Leader Apprenticeship (SLA) is an innovative alternative to a traditional master’s in Business, placing you and your organisation at its core.
Who is it for?
The SLA is ideal for new senior managers or those who have progressed within their organisation and require development as a senior leader.
How is it delivered?
This blended work-based apprenticeship is delivered over 24 months and includes four modules, assignment workshops, writing retreats, academic skills development sessions and tutorials. Each module is delivered in blocks of two days onsite and two days online.
You will be supported by the Programme Team and the Centre for Enhancement in Learning and Teaching (CELT) to develop the academic skills needed for success. Furthermore, SLAs will be encouraged to take advantage of the business facilities and services offered by Lincolnshire Open Research and Innovation Centre (LORIC) and BG Futures, BGU’s onsite Business and Enterprise Centre and Careers, Employability and Enterprise Team.

What you will study
Students on this course currently study some or all of the following modules:
The ability to enhance organisational performance through the dynamic and effectual leadership and development of people is fundamental for Leaders who wish to achieve and maximise organisational success. The aim of this module is to equip learners with the requisite knowledge to develop the skills and occupational competence needed to effectively lead and develop people in pursuit of organisational excellence.
The aim of this module is to equip learners with the requisite knowledge to develop the skills needed to effectively and proactively develop an entrepreneurial response to complex organisational challenges in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments. Furthermore, learners will explore how to set and deliver sustainable strategic goals.
Learners will explore how to critically assess methods for analysing financial data and information required to make strategic decisions. Learners will also develop their understanding and knowledge of financial governance and legislative requirements.
Learners will critique the factors which drive the development of organisational strategy and appraise approaches to successfully develop strategy. The module culminates in learners developing an organisational strategy to achieve a business goal. To complement this activity, learners will propose an approach to implement and monitor the strategy developed to ensure its sustained success.
This module provides learners with the opportunity to initiate, plan and produce a unique and independent piece of work that showcases and further builds on the knowledge, skills and mindset developed throughout the programme to date.
Learners are encouraged to self-select a format for their final project that best suits their career ambitions and overarching goals for their MBA. Learners may opt to complete a business dissertation, applied corporate project, or produce a business plan.
- Must be resident in the UK and in employment.
- Must be aged over 18.
- Minimum of level 2 or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths
- Ability to demonstrate Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills at level 2.
Where evidence is unavailable, apprentices must complete these requirements by the end of the Apprenticeship and evidence must be provided to the End-Point assessment body. The designated Apprenticeship Support Officer will support apprentices with Functional skills development.
Entry requirements are outlined by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. However, individual employers will set the selection criteria for their Senior Leader Apprenticeships.
Applications can only be made with the consent of the sponsoring employer, and the employer will be engaged from the outset.
If the employer wishes to secure multiple places on the apprenticeship, they may be the initial enquirer as opposed to the proposed apprentice(s) and thus, all relevant information will be shared with the employers for them to determine whether to proceed. In all instances, employers must be engaged in the application process.

How you will be taught
A blended approach is used for delivering teaching and learning, with some sessions delivered on campus and others remotely. All campus and online classes take place over a weekend meaning you can study around the needs of your business or employment.
You will be assessed through a variety of methods, ranging from traditional coursework to more practical assessments such as the creation of Vlogs and Podcasts. Throughout, an emphasis on self-reflection is also present, with you being encouraged to consider how you will apply learning within the workplace. You will be encouraged to self-select a format for your final project that best suits your career ambitions and overarching goals for your MBA. You may also opt to complete a business dissertation, applied corporate project, or produce a business plan.
