Steve started out providing an emergency boarding up service for established glazing businesses that didn’t offer this service; through this Steve gained a valuable insight into the glazing business, and then went on to complete a City and Guilds Level 2 course in Glazing. From here, through extensive experience in the industry, Steve continued to refine his skills and now offers his services through Acorn.

Reflecting on his biggest challenge as an entrepreneur in the Glazing industry, Steve expressed that “it can be difficult as a small business up against established businesses, the perception is that the bigger and more established the business, the better the service they provide.”

Conversely, Steve deems it his biggest success that he has measured up against these more established businesses on several occasions:

“I’m proud of the fact that some of my clients have valued my services over those who are more established, simply because I have proven this through the quality and value of the service I provide.”

Through all of this, Steve has learned that perseverance is key to success in business; “There will be bad days, but through determination and grit I have got to the point I have now from where I was when I started.”

Steve is one of our longstanding Virtual Tenants, having had his registered office address as BG Futures Business and Enterprise Centre since 2012:

“Having a Virtual Office at BG Futures has given me peace of mind knowing that my private life and business life are separate. Being able to hold meetings in a professional setting has allowed me to meet clients and operate my business with more ease.”

Becky Goodman, Enterprise Development Manager at BGU commented:

Steve is a longstanding and valued member of our BG Futures community, and it is great to see him using the facility to benefit his business. Acorn has a great reputation in the locality, and it is a testament to Steve’s hard work and determination that the business goes from strength to strength.
