About the Library

The Library is a truly communal space where students from all programmes come to study, gather information and seek advice & guidance

About the Library

Our Library is a truly communal, inclusive space used by students across all programmes. It…

  • offers a wide variety of print and electronic resources to support your studies, and the search tools to discover them
  • provides lots of opportunities to get expert help and advice when you need it
  • maintains access to study spaces and related equipment
  • helps to promote and develop information literacy skills
  • leads on copyright compliance
  • supports reading list provision
  • administers the University’s research repository,

The Library is promoted through our comprehensive LibGuides site and social media, and reading for pleasure is actively encouraged. Close ties are maintained with the student body via the Students’ Union, student reps and our student shelvers.

Library Opening Hours

Our Library is open 7 days a week through the year, except for the period between Christmas and New Year and over the Easter weekend.  For a detailed schedule see our LibGuides site.

Key Services & Facilities

Students and members of staff are able to borrow, reserve and renew books and other materials as well as make use of our document supply services such as inter-library loan. There is a self-service machine for book loans, a drop box for returning books when the library is closed, and you receive an automated emails a few days before any loans are due back. Specialist Help and Advice

There are a variety of ways to get help and advice from our library team:

Provision for Students with Additional Needs

Our aim is to provide accessible learning environments that are fit for purpose and conducive to study for all our students whilst respecting and reflecting the diversity and inclusiveness of the university community. All students who disclose additional needs are encouraged to keep in touch with a named contact in the Library for help or advice.

The Library is located in the Cornerstone Building, is spread out over two floors, and is fully accessible via a lift. Both floors have accessible toilet facilities. A hearing loop is fitted at the Service Desk and height adjustable computer workstations are located in the 24/7 IT Suite, Social Study Suite and Silent Study Suite. Facilities are provided for individual, group, computer-based and silent study.
