Situated in the heart of historic Lincoln, Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) has been a bustling hive of education and culture for over 150 years.
In the last year, as well as the exciting discoveries being made on our courses, BGU has played host to terrifying monsters, enjoyed performances from side-splitting comedians and delved into the fascinating history of Medieval England.
To put it simply, there is always something happening here at BGU and the next 12 months are packed with even more events that promise to delight and inspire.
Paul Henderson as David Bowie – 20th September 2018
Paul Henderson is the closest you will get to hearing the much loved and much missed David Bowie. 70s and 80s classics performed on 12 string guitar and backing tracks including – ‘Life On Mars’, ‘Ashes To Ashes’, ‘Starman’, ‘Let’s Dance’ and many others hits including classic album tracks.
Grease at BGU’s special outdoor cinema – 6th October 2018
Grab your chairs, blankets and leather jackets to join us in celebrating the 40 year anniversary of Grease under the stars on a huge inflatable screen.
With free parking (subject to availability) and refreshments available to be purchased, BGU and Skylight Cinema’s first outdoor cinema is set to be a fantastic night.
Gates open at 5pm and the film begins at 7pm

Robert Grosseteste Day Celebration Lecture: Policing and Religion in 21st Century Britain – 10th October 2018
The Annual Robert Grosseteste Lecture, examining Policing and Religion in 21st Century Britain, will be delivered by Chief Constable Mike Cunningham; CEO of the College of Policing and a Theology graduate from Durham University. Having spent three years as a HM Inspector of Constabulary and before that Chief Constable of Staffordshire police he was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in 2013.
Entry is free of charge however; you must book tickets to guarantee your space and a seat.

Christmas Carol Service: ‘Looking to the Future’ – 11th December 2018
You are invited to the Bishop Grosseteste University Annual Carol Service, in the spectacular surroundings of St Hugh’s Choir in Lincoln Cathedral. This year’s theme of “Looking into the Future” draws together the great Advent themes of the signs that point to the coming of the Saviour, with a foretaste of the Christmas Joy. The collection at the service will be divided between the BGU staff and Students’ Union annual charities.

Jersey Guys – 28th February 2019
The All New Jersey Guys come to BGU. One of the UKs leading tribute productions, the Jersey Guys are known across the country for their captivating and absorbing act showcasing the greatest hits of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons.
With all the style and showmanship of one of the USA’s greatest ever bands this is an evening music fans cannot afford to miss. Tickets are £12 each and can be purchased here.
Dan Hadfield as Gary Barlow – 22nd March 2019
Dan Hadfield is unquestionably the best and most authentic Gary Barlow tribute artiste in the entertainment industry, as well as one of the most sought-after acts in the UK. Recommended and highly-praised by the Take That front man himself, Dan has also performed with Gary and tours his tribute show all over the world.
His uncanny resemblance in looks, mannerisms and vocal performance has left audiences stunned and you can join Dan at BGU for an evening packed with some of the nation’s favourite songs.

An Evening with Peggy Knight – 25th April 2019
Don’t miss this chance to see the world renowned Lesley Smith return to the Venue for an evening with Peggy Knight.
In 1944 a young woman was parachuted into Nazi occupied France. She was a member of SOE and had only received two weeks training and one practice parachute jump. Her story of immense courage and dignity in the face of the most dangerous of situations is both breath-taking and remarkable.
Peggy’s story is little known but now is the time to find her. An ordinary woman who you would pass in the street without a second glance, but she was extraordinary, as you will discover.

The Story of the Tower of London with Tracy Borman – 30th May 2019
Following Tracy’s sell out talk on Elizabeth’s Women, we are delighted that she will return to BGU to deliver a talk on The Story of the Tower of London.
In this illustrated talk Dr Tracy Borman will explore some of the fascinating stories behind one of Britain’s most iconic buildings. The Tower of London was not just the backdrop, but the lead actor in some of the most momentous events of our history. Exploring the stories of its 950-year history reveals a dazzling cast of characters, from the well-known (such as Anne Boleyn, Sir Walter Raleigh and the Princes in the Tower) to the more unexpected (spies, jewel thieves and polar bears).
