Course Leader PGCE Primary and Early Years’ Teaching Status

Sue Lambert is currently the Course Leader for the PGCE Primary and EYTS programmes at Bishop Grosseteste University. She joined BGU in January 2006. Prior to commencing her post in H.E. She taught in mainstream primary schools for nineteen years, teaching all ages in the primary phase. She was a SENCo for many years, which included responsibility for the most able children. She was seconded for eighteen months as an advisory teacher for history and was a subject leader for a number of subjects. She completed an MA in Education and her NPQH qualification. Her final post in school was as a deputy head teacher in a large primary school. Since working in Higher Education she has also completed a Certificate of Professional Studies in Education (CPSE) and gained fellowship to the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching

Sue teaches on the Postgraduate Primary programmes. Her teaching interests include all aspects of professional practice particularly assessment, safeguarding and behaviour as well as leadership and management in educational settings. She teaches across a range of subjects and has a particular interest in humanities. She also supports trainees in partnership with schools and early years’ settings during placements. Her prior and current experiences enable her to utilise her vast teaching experience across a number of schools and advisory work to support trainees to become good and outstanding teachers.

Research

MA Research – (Child Development Module) More questions than answers?
An investigation into the effect of the frequency and type of questions used on pairs of children in a problem solving situation. Small scale study of pairs of children and their responses to questions within scientific investigations. (Observational and interview techniques used.)

MA Research – (Management in Education Module)
An examination of the managerial issues embedded in the implementation of the National Curriculum. Whole school study involving a document search, questionnaires for all staff and interview techniques. Findings shared with staff and recommendations used for INSET.

CPSE. Second Module: Reflective Practitioner.
Small scale research project relating to PGCE Primary trainees understanding of reflective practice, through analysis of group discussion, individual response following discussion and evaluation of their Informed Reflective Practitioner assignments. Findings and recommendations shared with colleagues within the school of Teacher Development and presented at an EsCALATE symposium.
