Lecturer in Applied Studies
Karl Aubrey coordinates and teaches on Foundation Degrees in Applied Studies which has pathways in learning support, early childhood, and children and youth work. He is also responsible for the associated BA (Hons) Applied Studies progression routes. Research interests include aspects of ideology, teacher professionalism and teacher education pedagogy in the further education sector. Karl worked in the further education sector before joining Bishop Grosseteste University in 2007.
Karl is Academic Coordinator for Applied Studies and teaches a range of modules on the work-based programmes. Teaching interests include educational research, philosophies, policy and provision, contemporary issues, and adult learning. Karl has developed innovative resources to facilitate blended and distance learning.
Karl’’s current research interest is centred around his Doctorate in Education (EdD) which explores the impact that the key teacher education policies created between 2000 and 2010 has had on further education teacher educators. This research has included the aspects of ideology, teacher professionalism and teacher education pedagogy in the further education sector.

Karl has previously been seconded to the DfES Standards Unit as the East Midlands learning and teaching practitioner.
