Lecturer in Professional Studies and Psychology

Jan Machalski teaches on the Foundation Degree in Professional Studies, on the Education Pathway, and on the BA (Hons) Professional Studies in Education. She also teaches on the Psychology Undergraduate degree. Jan joined the staff of Bishop Grosseteste University in 2005 having held a variety of leadership and senior management roles in both the secondary and further education sectors. Jan is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching

Jan’s teaching interests include teaching and learning theories, secondary and special school education, the development of subject knowledge, and using e-technologies to enhance learning. Her leadership experience has subsequently nurtured an interest in leadership and management theories and their application.

Research

Jan has been part of the Escalate funded team looking at employer engagement. More recently she explored the role of video conferencing in supporting the early learning of trainee teachers. This was published in Escalate News, funded by a Sharing Ideas grant from Escalate and resulted in a workshop at the TEAN conference at the University of Glasgow. Teaching on a work based degree means that many of her research interests are focussed within this area.
