Programme Leader for Business and Enterprise

Dr Elinor Vettraino heads the Business and Enterprise area within the School of Humanities. This is a relatively newly formed area for the university and it currently has the BA (Hons) Business (Team Entrepreneurship) degree based on the Finnish Team Academy model, and the BA (Hons) Business degree focusing on a broader context of business in a changing world. Elinor has a diverse background in leadership and management, training and development and education with a focus on creative industries and the visual and performing arts.  Elinor’s consultancy, Active Imagining (www.active-imagining.co.uk) offers bespoke training and development to businesses and individuals, using a range of creative approaches to transforming practice.  Elinor joined the staff of Bishop Grosseteste University in February 2015, following 6 years as head of creative arts at Fife College, Scotland and before that as head of Expressive Arts and Practice and Placement for the teacher education programmes at the University of Dundee.

Teaching

Elinor is the Head Coach for the BA (Hons) Business (Team Entrepreneurship) programme, specialising in team coaching and creative development.  Her teaching interests include making use of creative and performing arts, social, political and educational theatre to support learning and development in other subject areas such as leadership, management, entrepreneurship and professional education.

Research

Elinor’s research background is in social, political and educational theatre, and most recently, the use of applied theatre techniques as tools for reflective practice in educational leadership. She is co-editor and author of Youth and Theatre of the Oppressed (Duffy and Vettraino, 2010 http://www.palgrave.com/us/book/9780230619173), and Playing in a House of Mirrors: Applied Theatre as Reflective Practice (Vettraino and Linds, 2015 https://www.sensepublishers.com/catalogs/bookseries/other-books/playing-in-a-house-of-mirrors/). Elinor’s doctoral research was in the use of a dramatherapeutic storytelling technique as a reflective practice methodology and she is interested in the application of such creative processes in wider contexts such as entrepreneurial education and, in particular, the scope for intervention in connection with resilience in entrepreneurs.  Other research interests reflect Elinor’s connection with therapeutic and applied theatre and identity.

Consultancy and projects

Elinor’s consultancy provides a creative approach to leadership training and management. Her recent projects have included:

  • The design and delivery of a creative coaching based programme for SLT at a large college in the east of Scotland;
  • Executive 1-1 and team based coaching adapted from the Tiimiakatemia model;
  • Delivery of the Team Academy UK Team Mastery programme, working as Associate Programme Manager with Akatemia CIC UK
