Thank you for the interest you are showing in Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU). We hope you will find the information here helpful and that it will encourage you to consider applying to study here in Lincoln, a small cathedral city in a fascinating and relatively undiscovered part of the UK. We think our University has a lot to offer to prospective international students and we know that those who have studied here in the past or who are here currently have found their time to be both worthwhile academically and personally satisfying.
BGU has been offering higher education to students since 1862, so we have a great deal of experience to draw on! Our campus is smaller than other universities but this makes it possible for us to offer a very supportive community where staff and students get to know each other well. This is just one of the reasons why we have very high success rates in terms of academic results and employment. It also makes it easy for us to support international students – our students are never just numbers, they are known to us as individual people. Our campus size also makes it easy for international students to get to know our home students; all resident students are together in halls on our single site campus, just minutes from academic and student support facilities, and the Students’ Union runs a lively social programme to help people make new friends and settle in.
Our campus is an 18 acre site in the attractive Uphill area of Lincoln, just a ten minute walk from the Cathedral, Castle and surrounding medieval streets. There is plenty of green space surrounding a pleasant blend of older buildings reminding us of our heritage and newer buildings with the latest learning and teaching facilities. Campus social life is enhanced by the dedicated Students’ Union buildings, a student common room and a Sport and Fitess centre, as well our on-campus cinema, The Venue – and of course, with the centre of Lincoln just a short walk away, there are also many opportunities to enjoy life beyond the campus too!
BGU is a Church University within the Anglican tradition. In keeping with that tradition, we welcome students and staff of all faiths and none to our courses and encourage debate about the bigger questions of life. Our ambition for all students is that they will go on to make a difference in the world, whatever their chosen career, and that their time at Bishop Grosseteste University will help support them in this. We hope that this ambition is one you share and that you will consider coming to us for the next step in your lifelong learning experience.
