Obtaining a Visa ('Entry Clearance')
If you are studying in the UK for six months or more, it is likely that you will need to apply for ‘entry clearance’ to study in the UK before you leave your home country. Information about applying for ‘entry clearance’ is available on the UK Borders Agency website. You can make an application at your local British Mission Overseas and details are available at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website.
When making your application, you will need to demonstrate you have enough money to pay for your tuition fees and living costs in the UK, as well as providing additional information and documentation. Full details can be found at the UK Borders Agency website.
More details can be found on the UKCISA website: Immigration, including visas.
Travel
As well as considering the cost of your journey to the UK, you also need to remember to make allowances for the cost of your travel within the UK. Click here for details of train and bus timetables, as well as fares.
You may wish to consider taking out travel insurance to cover yourself and your luggage. It is advisable to make a list of what you have packed so that if your luggage is lost you can account for all your belongings. If you have bought anything new before your journey remember to keep the proof of purchase as the insurance company may ask to see them. Endsleigh Insurance has a special international student policy, produced in conjunction with UKCOSA. For more information please visit their website or Tel: +44 (0)1482 445 034.
Tuition Fees
Tuition Fees for students ordinarily resident outside of the UK and EU are as follows:
- Undergraduate Programmes: BA/BSc(Hons): £11, 500
- Postgraduate Programmes: £12, 500
Living Costs
Lincoln is one of the cheaper cities in which to live in the UK. The UK Border Agency determines how much money you should have to support your living costs in the UK – this will form part of your application for a student visa. Details are available at the UK Border Agency website.
