BGU Year 12 Summer School: Tuesday 8th August – Friday 11th August 2017
*Places still available*
The deadline for submissions has been extended to June 12th. Any applications received after this date will still be considered and put on a reserve list. Please call 01522583637 if you would like to discuss your application or find out any more information about the Summer School.
If you are interested in finding out more about Higher Education and want a real hands-on experience of what it’s like to be a University student, then our completely free of charge Summer School could be a fantastic opportunity for you.
This unique experience will give you the opportunity to increase your academic confidence, break out of your comfort zone and take part in a selection of subject taster sessions led by both academic staff and current BGU students. We hope by the end of the week you will be able to consider Higher Education as a suitable option for your future.
During the Summer School, you will be provided with free meals and accommodation right here on the BGU Campus so you can really get a feel for student life while making new friends and having fun in the process. Participants last year were treated to on-campus academic taster sessions, laser tag and a superheroes fancy dress competition, amongst other fantastic activities. In addition, our BGU Student Ambassadors will be on hand throughout the week to guide you and make you feel at home.
Still not sure if it’s for you? 2016 participants have said:
“(The Summer School was) An eye-opening experience into University life that has helped me to secure my decision about the university course I wish to study”
“My experience was very informative and helped me realise that Uni is where I want to be in the future!”
“It was an amazing experience and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it!”
So take a step outside of your comfort zone and apply today!
How to Apply
Please download a copy of our application form and ensure all sections are complete. Your parent/carer will need to sign it to say they are aware you are applying for a place. Your teacher will also need to provide a reference.
Please return your application form to Summer School Co-Ordinator – Outreach Team, Bishop Grosseteste University, Longdales Road, Lincoln, LN1 3DY.
The deadline for submissions is 9 June 2017. Please note that we do have a right to extend this deadline, should we feel necessary.
What happens next?
We will write to you by 23 June to inform you of the outcome of your application. You will either be unsuccessful, on the reserve list or successful.
If you are unsuccessful, we will notify you of any upcoming opportunities that might be of interest to you – unfortunately, the process can be competitive, and we only have 50 places to offer (25 for girls, 25 for boys), so we do apologise for any disappointment.
Reserve students will then be notified within a good time if a place becomes available.
Successful students will be informed by letter of the next steps to take. This will involve filling out some important documents and forms which must be returned to us prior to the Summer School starting.
This website will be updated regularly should any information change.
Application and Selection Process
This is a Widening Participation initiative, which means that we will not be allocating places on a first come, first served basis. We will choose participants based on the information collected on their application form, and assess their eligibility for the scheme in line with Widening Participation funding stipulations. Initially we have places available for 25 girls and 25 boys, however, we reserve the right to amend this ratio should we feel necessary.
In the past, we have extended the deadline for submissions and we reserve the right to do so this year. We welcome applications from everyone studying in Year 12 or equivalent, and we want to give places to those people whom we feel will benefit the most from the experience. We also want to ensure that we have a range of participants from different schools across the county, enabling like-minded young people to come together and meet for the first time, just as undergraduates do when starting life at University.
To read more about widening participation, please view this page: www.bishopg.ac.uk/wideningparticipation.
Please do not hesitate to call us on 01522 583737 should you have any queries about our application and selection process.
