Meet the Team

CEDaR is part of the Academic Engagement Hub at Bishop Grosseteste University. The Hub also incorporates Student Support and Learning Advice, Library Services, Student Recruitment and Admissions, Quality Assurance and Student Data, and International activity. CEDaR works with students and staff to enhance and develop learning, teaching and research. Our services reflect an ethos of openness and collaboration; a professional approach and respect for the individual underpin everything we do.

Dr Jenny Rees – Dean of Students and Academic Engagement

Jenny is a member of BG’s Senior Leadership Team and leads the Academic Engagement Hub within which CEDaR is situated.

Professor Chris Atkin - Head of Educational Development and Research
chris.atkin@bishopg.ac.uk
Chris' main research expertise lies in the policy and practice of post-school education and training; with a particular focus on rural communities. He has completed a range of research projects funded by the UK funding councils (ESRC, EPSRC, NERC), the British Academy, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the National Research and Development Centre for adult literacy and numeracy (NRDC), Local Authorities and the Learning and Skills Council. His research has included both national and international comparative studies including 'practitioner based' enquiry with a range of educational stakeholders. He currently teaches on masters and doctoral programmes across Bishop Grosseteste University.

Professor John Sharp – Head of Doctoral Studies

John represents the institution on various boards and committees internally and externally and is an elected member of the editorial boards of two international journals. John works with staff and students across the institution to advise in research at all levels, and is first supervisor for the University's PhD programme. Currently, his work has taken him into higher education research focusing on a critique of VAK, boredom proneness and its impact on degree performance among undergraduate students and considering lecturer self-efficacy within the education studies and initial teacher training communities.

Dr Kate Adams – EdD Coordinator

Kate is Academic Co-ordinator for the Doctor of Education (EdD) programme - the premier academic qualification for experienced professionals working in the education sector. Kate is also a Reader in Education. She works with staff and students across the institution to advise and develop confidence in research at all levels, from undertaking research for the first time to completing doctoral study and managing a research career.

Caroline Pearce – e-Learning Technologist

Caroline is available for assistance with the VLE (Blackboard) and other learning technologies (e.g. TALOS). Caroline works with academic and support staff as well as students and delivers individual and group training sessions on a variety of ICT applications.

Elaine Cobb – Learning Systems Support Technician

Elaine is responsible for supporting the e-portfolio system on Blackboard.

Ellie Foster – Academic Engagement Hub Administrative Assistant
ellie.foster@bishopg.ac.uk
Ellie assists all members of the CEDaR team in ensuring staff and students and well supported in learning and teaching. She helps with the production of learning and teaching resources, administers academic and academic-related staff development and research funding, helps organise conferences and events and ensures information is kept up to date.
