Events
As a valued member of the BG community, we welcome you to join us at the many events, activities and fundraising initiatives we hold throughout the year. Whether you’re interested in returning to campus for a reunion with your old BG friends, to see the latest theatre production at The Venue, or to listen to an inaugural lecture, we would be delighted to see you there.
We take pride in sending our alumni personal invitations to our events but if you want to get the date in the diary as soon as possible you can download our free events programme, BG&You, which gives you details about what’s on in the upcoming months.
Many of our events are free of charge however, should there be a fee for an event or activity you may be entitled to a discount as a BG Generations member. Please just ask at the time of booking.
Reunions
BG Fringe Homecoming Reunion 2013
It might have a new name but we think this year’s Homecoming will be bigger and better than ever before, making it the perfect event for our alumni to meet up with old BG friends and tutors to celebrate our new university status!
Having listened to the feedback provided in the alumni survey, we have decided to team up with our Students’ Union to provide you with a fantastic day of live music, theatre and arts entertainment, in addition to the Mo Willoughby Memorial Football Tournament, which we will be running as usual for all those who want to show their dribbling and scoring skills on the pitch.
Keeping to the same weekend in May, the BG Fringe will run throughout the day and into the evening on Saturday 4th May 2013, and we’d like to see as many of you as possible. We’d especially like to put a call out to alumni who might want to perform on the day, whether that’s in a theatrical capacity (we’re thinking street theatre!) or in a musical capacity with the opportunity to play during the day or in the evening in the bar after the football trophy presentation.
Unlike previous Homecoming events, we have taken the decision to ticket the events this year, and we very much hope this will be supported by our students and alumni alike. We have tried to keep the cost of the tickets affordable, at £4.00 for alumni and guests and free to children under the age of 10, with all the money raised from ticket sales to be split equally between our Students’ Union RAG charity: the Teenage Cancer Trust and the BG Foundation Fund. For those alumni returning to take part in the Mo Willoughby Tournament we suggest each player make a small donation which would then allow access to all the other activities taking place on campus throughout the day and into the evening.
For those unfamiliar with the two charities, the BG Foundation Fund provides financial support for student volunteering projects, and the Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity devoted to improving the lives of young people with cancer, with funds raised by BGU going directly to a project in Nottingham to help the development of a new unit at Queens Medical Centre, the closest unit to BGU.
