Wednesday October 18. 1-2pm Seminar 4 (Hardy Building); Free Refreshments
The pomerium was the sacred boundary which surrounded Rome and, we are told by some ancient authors, other cities founded across the Roman Empire.
This research seminar will explore the creation and the physical and religious manifestations of the pomerium at Rome, and whether Roman Lincoln may also have been imbued with such a sacred boundary at its foundation.
It will examine how such a boundary might have influenced daily life in the Colonia and how we might perceive the defensive walls and ditches as providing spiritual as much as physical protection for its own inhabitants.
