Digitisation Services
We can offer a fully integrated digitisation service including: scanning, data storage, e-learning resource design, and project management.
Our service combines equipment, expertise and management experience that is unrivalled in the local region and comparable to equivalent services offered nationally.
The BG digitisation service can provide:
- Consultancy advice on identification, appraisal, conservation and classification
- The digitisation and reproduction of items and collections, ranging from bulk scanning to the handling of rare or delicate objects
- Management of digitisation, data storage and e-learning projects
- The creation of digital and online materials, including e-learning and distance-learning resources
- Public exhibition design and event management
- High specification equipment
- Quality assured procedures
- Competitive and cost-effective charges
The BG digitisation service covers:
- Loose leaf and folio documents
- Books
- Manuscripts
- Maps
- Small artefacts
In addition to conventional flatbed scanning we offer the use of an A2 Bookeye Colour scanner that promotes the safe digitisation and conservation of large, delicate and valuable documents. This overhead scanning facility ensures that documents are exposed to the minimum of hazardous environmental conditions, such as extremes of infra-red and ultra-violet light, and require much less handling and manipulation than is involved in conventional scanning techniques. Depth of field also allows the efficient scanning of three-dimensional artefacts. In many cases this allows documents to be scanned without their having to be removed from plastic sleeves and other sorts of protection. Combined with the bookfold correction software this facility allows for the efficient reproduction of the most awkward and fragile documents with the minimum of risk.
The BG service can offer advice on the handling of historical and other documents and objects, archivist support, and archive repository storage (with Redcare security).
Different levels of project management are available to clients. This can include:
- Consultancy advice on identification and appraisal
- Digitisation of historical and new documents and objects
- Data storage and database management
- Website and e-learning resource design
- Reproduction and dissemination
- Public exhibition design and event management
Hire of the digital scanner for use on-site is available with:
