TUITION FEE FUNDING

Tuition Fee Loan

Full-time Students REPAYABLE
Non income-assessed: up to £3,290 in 2010/2011

APPLY FOR YOUR FUNDING AT www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance BY 25 JUNE 2010 TO BE SURE IT'S READY FOR THE START OF YOUR COURSE

CONTINUING STUDENTS SHOULD RE-APPLY BEFORE 21 MAY 2010

Each academic year, eligible (see "Tuition Fees") full-time students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan, available from the Student Loans Company, equivalent to the tuition fee for the course they are studying. The Tuition Fee Loan is paid directly to the University College.

The Tuition Fee Loan is not income assessed and there is no upper age limit. The Tuition Fee Loan is only available to students who have not yet paid their tuition fees in full.

Eligible undergraduate and PGCE students are able to apply for the Tuition Fee Loan.

In order to be eligible for a Tuition Fee Loan (equivalent to the cost of your tuition fees) you must:

  • be a UK/EU national; and
  • have been ordinarily resident in the UK (and islands) or the European Economic Area for the three years before the date your course begins; and
  • be resident in the UK on the first day of your course; and
  • not already hold an honours degree (except for PGCE programmes); and
  • studying a course which qualifies for funding (all our undergraduate and PGCE programmes qualify)

If you have a prevous history of studying in Higher Education in the UK, or if you have arrears owing to the Student Loans Company, your entitlement to further funding may be affected - please contact Student Support for more information.

For more information about student finance please refer to the Student Finance website.

Tuition Fee Funding for tuition fees for Part-time Students

Part-time Students NON-REPAYABLE
Income-assessed: up to £1230 in 2010/2011

A Part-time Fee Grant is available to help with the cost of part-time students' tuition fee costs. How much assistance a student receives depends on the intensity of study (students must usually study at least 50% of the full-time equivalent course to be eligible for assistance) and their financial situation.

Additional funding may be available form the University College's Access to Learning Fund - please contact Student Support for more information.

Part-time students should contact their Local Authority for more information, or visit the Student Finance website.

International Students

A different fee structure applies to international students, who will be asked to pay £8100 for one year's study in 2010/2011 (this fee is subject to an annual inflationary increase).

The UK government does not provide financial support to assist international students with tuition fee (or living cost) support. International students should ensure they have secured all funding necessary to cover living costs and tuition fees before leaving their home country.
