Welcome
Welcome to the English Department. We are a thriving community with more than 150 students spread across two degrees, the English Literature BA Honours and the Education and English BA Honours. The Department is of the highest quality as reflected in the National Student Survey in which the English Department at BG came 1st, nationally, in 2007, out of more than 80 university English Departments.
The English Literature BA Honours at BG is a really successful and enjoyable programme. You get a great deal of choice about the modules that you study and the assignments that you do, as well as the chance to gain some optional hands-on work experience. You are taught by highly qualified and experienced staff who really care about you as an individual. They'll help you explore your interests and develop your skills so that you get the most out of your time at university.
As well as what happens on your course there are loads of things taking place outside of it. The Department run free extra-curricular Creative Writing sessions, poetry readings and performances, research seminars with visiting speakers from other universities and conferences. We also organise trips to London, to the theatre at Stratford and elsewhere depending on the opportunities that arise. There's also a student-run English society which puts on events for students and all in all it's a thriving and exciting community.
