Applications To BG Are On The Rise!

Latest figures released by UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) show another record year for applicants to higher education, with applications to BG rising by more than the national average.

As of 22 January 2010, BG's total application figures for 2010 entry have risen by just under 23% from the figures for 2009, well above the national average of 19.7%.

The applications for Foundation Degrees at BG have seen the highest leap in numbers, with almost 70% more applications than the same period last year. This shows BG to be well above the national average for Foundation Degrees, which stands at 51%.

Rob Sherville, Assistant Academic Registrar (Student Records and Admissions): "The increase in applications across the range of our undergraduate courses underlines the continuing popularity and quality of the University College and its courses. It also reflects the hard work of academic and support staff in promoting the institution and ensuring that students' experience of us is a positive one, from first contact through to graduation and beyond."

BG's Foundation Degrees offer those people currently in employment a chance to study for a relevant qualification without giving up their jobs. Academic study is combined with workplace learning, resulting in a qualification broadly equivalent to the first two years of a Bachelors degree.

BG's current Foundation Degrees are:

- Foundation Degree Children's Services (Children & Youth Work)
- Foundation Degree Children's Services (Early Childhood)
- Foundation Degree Children's Services (Family, Health & Community)*
- Foundation Degree Learning Practitioners
